Maybe I’m just following the wrong blogs.

I love Tumblr but seeing daily all these posts that expose how racist and sexist and generally awful society is…kinda breaks my heart? I don’t read the news on purpose, but here it is - in its own uniquely depressing way - every day, in so many ways. I like knowing the truth, but sometimes it’s like being berated with “Hey! Did you know everyone is awful? DO YOU? If you don’t reblog this I’m judging you.”
I used to love how much fun Tumblr felt. Now I’m not exactly so sure.

…and then she probably took it off and lived happily ever after. it’s like all these times when Muslim women discuss their experiences with Islamophobia when wearing hijab and barely anyone cares besides other Muslims. But then a white woman says it and everyone’s like “oh yeahh omg so true. this is a real issue”.
"It reminded me of something that many people know but barely remember: the women in hijabs are people, just like all those women out there who aren’t Muslim"
^^^ Like ok so it took a white girl doing in experiment for “only a few hours” to realize the we Muslim women are actual people? And as if wearing a headscarf doesn’t make you human with feelings any more? You needed to do an experiment to realize that Muslim women are REAL human beings?
if you’re wondering if this is cultural appropriation, it isn’t because Islam doesn’t say that someone who is not Muslim cannot wear a headscarf It is open to anyone. But don’t call it a hijab; with wearing hijab come responsibilities and way of living that are special to a Muslim woman; not for some experiment that a white person wanted to try out.

She was just trying to tell her story. Let her tell it.
